A SIMPLE METHOD FOR LIGATING WITH STRAIGHT AND CURVED NEEDLES IN OPERATIVE LAPAROSCOPY

Harry Reich, MD, H Courtenay Clarke, MD and Lisa Sekel, CST

From the Wyoming Valley GYN OB Associates, Kingston, Pennsylvania; the Department of Gynecology, Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Hotel Dieu Hospital, Windsor, Ontario, Canada

This report describes the use of the Clarke ligator (knot-pusher) and lists its recent applications. Laparoscopic suturing is simplified by the use of a new technique allowing any size curved needle to be inserted through a 5-mm puncture site.
