PRIMARY OVARIAN HYDATIDIFORM MOLE: ADDITION OF A SIXTH CASE TO THE LITERATURE

Dana Edward Jock, MD, Peter E. Schwartz, MD and Lewis Portnoy, MD

From the Deportment of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Park City Hospital, Bridgeport, Connecticut

Abstract

A sixth case of primary ovarian hydatidiform mole is added to the English literature. This is an extremely unusual condition, which is calculated to occur once in 50 million pregnancies. Conservative therapy is appropriate, with chemotherapy necessary only in the event of persistent or rising serum chorionic gonadotropin titers. An additional unique finding in this case is the extensive involvement of the omentum by decidual transformation without evidence of metastasis by the trophoblast.
