From the Department of Obstetrics arid Gynccology, The School of Medicine, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
A spring-loaded clip designed to be applied to the uterine tubes by insertion through an operative laparoscope has been developed. The first 200 applications were performed mostly with local anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. Although most of these procedures were for interval sterilization only, 32 were combined with either first or second trimester abortions. The procedure has been well accepted by patients arid is found to be technically feasible by the physicians performing this procedure. There have been no known failures of the clip itself, but there were 3 failures due to improper clip application
