Abstract
An arrhenoblastoma that produced virilization in an 18-year-old girl was surgically removed and cultivated in vitro for over 60 days. Biochemical alterations caused by the tumor were studied in vivo and steroid metabolism was studied in vitro. Plasma testosterone dropped from 6.0 ng/ml to 0.7 ng/ml after the operation. Testosterone was produced by the tumor in tissue culture from tritiated pregnenolonc. The ?5 pathway by which the CD compounds are formed was found to be the major biosynthetic route in the tumor studied.
