Abstract
Elevated amniotic fluid creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels were found in all tested cases of fetal death in utero. The CPK appears to be fetal in origin and accumulates in the amniotic fluid, presumably as a result of fetal tissue decomposition. Creatine phosphokinase concentrations seem also to reflect the time interval elapsed following fetal demise.
