A technic for microfilm display of the electromechanical intervals of the cardiac cycle has been developed. By using the R-wave of the ECG as a trigger, the mechanical events of every cardiac cycle were displaced successively on a CRT and photographed on microfilm. The ultrasound Doppler cardiogram from the fetus during labor and arterial pressure tracing from the newborn infant were used together with ECG to study the preejection period (PEP) and the ventricular ejection time (VET). Uterine contractions, mean blood pressure, or heart rate were displayed on the film simultaneously to relate these biologic data and the systolic time intervals. This technic permits reduction of data at real time speed and study of systolic time intervals of the cardiac cycle continuously, without losing rapid, dynamic changes during the observation.
