Cases of mesonephric (clear cell) adenocarcinoma of the vagina and cervix seen at the Mayo Clinic were reviewed. Ten such lesions, 2 vaginal and 8 cervical, occurred in patients horn subsequent to the first clinical use of stilbestrol (1939). Follow up disclosed that the mother had received synthetic estrogen therapy during pregnancy in 1 case of vaginal cancer and in 3 cases of cervical tumor. A definite increase in the number of mesonephric cancers has been noted in all age groups since 1960, although most of these cases are unrelated to maternal synthetic estrogen.
