Spontaneous Rupture of Vein of Gravid Uterus

ERNEST ESTEP, MD and JOHN J. DETTLING, MD

From the Akron City Hospital. Akron. Ohio

Abstract

The spontaneous rupture of a utero-ovarian vein before the onset or labor is one of the rarest and gravest complications of pregnancy. The purpose of this paper is to report a case of rupture of a subserosal uterine varix during the 37th week of pregnancy. Rupture of this subserosal vein resulted in massive intraperitoneal hemorrhage and profound shock. As a result of early recognition and prompt institution of measures to combat shock, the patient survived this serious complication of pregnancy.
