From the University of Texas System Cancer Center, M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute. Houston, Texas

Abstract

Sixty-four consecutive patients referred to M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute with adenocarcinoma of the endometrium had an endometrial jet washing, cervical-vaginal smear, and endometrial biopsy. The results of these studies were compared. The jet washer was found to be superior to the other diagnostic tests. Of these patients, 86% were correctly diagnosed by the endometrial jet washer. The Papantcolaou smear and endometrial biopsy had only 66% and 63% accuracy, respectively. The jet washing was performed without difficulty in the outpatient clinic.
