Tubal Gestation Associated With Schistosoma mansoni Salpingitis

YALE ROSEN, MD and BYUNGHOON KIM, MD

From the Department of Pathology, State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York

Abstract

A case of tubal pregnancy in association with Schistasoma mansoni salpingitis is reported. Involvement of female genital organs by S mansoni is rare and lower in frequency than with Schistasoma haematobium. The association of tubal pregnancy with S mansoni salpingitis has not been previously reported. The route of spread to the female genitalia is discussed. The finding of tubal pregnancy in association with severe chronic schistosomal salpingitis with marked tubal deformity strongly suggests that the parasitic infestation was a significant factor contributing to the tubal pregnancy in this case.
