Abstract
The experience of a private obstetric practice is surveyed with respect to the factors associated with perinatal mortality. On a retrospective basis, the majority of perinatal deaths were clue to factors which cannot be predicted with any accuracy. With the aid of the new technology and the support of a newborn nursery prepared to cope with premature infants, the vast majority of pregnancies can be handled in the community hospital, leaving only a small residium requiring referral to a regional medical center.
