From the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Abstract

Sixty-two normal gestations of 13 to 17 weeks and 1 molar pregnancy were completely or incompletely aborted using prostaglandin E2 as a vaginally administered agent. Average interval-abortion time was 11.9 hours. Side effects were frequent—vomiting and/or diarrhea in 8I%, temperature over 100º F in 61%, headache in 19%—but were not of a serious nature. Comparisons with similar studies show consistent results and suggest that a longer interval between serial doses may prove to be effective.
