Postpartum Bilateral Femoral Neuropathy

JAMES U. ADELMAN, MAJOR, MC, GERALD S. GOLDBERG, MAJOR, MC and JAMES D. PUCKETT, MAJOR, MD

From the Departments of Neurology and Obstetries-Gynecology, Martin Army Hospital, Fort Benniny, Georgia.

A 21-year-old primigravida developed bilateral femoral neuropathy after a difficult labor necessitating cesarean section. The surgery was complicated by significant blood loss and a hypotensive episode. The extreme bilateral symmetry of neurologic deficit necessitated a wide differential diagnosis including entities involving the spinal cord and spinal roots. The proper diagnosis of femoral neuropathy implies an excellent prognosis as was demonstrated by this rare case of bilateral involvement.
