INSTRUMENTS & METHODS

HEMOSTATIC "CERCLAGE" AFTER KNIFE CONIZATION OF THE CERVIX

UMBERTO VILLASANTA, MD, FACOG

From the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland.

The incidence of hemorrhage during or after knife conization of the cervix can be reduced by tying the lateral suture in front and back of the cervix in a purse-string or cerclage fashion. Postsurgical probing of the cervical canal will prevent stenosis.
