Histiocytosis X in the Female Genital Tract

EMMETT L. DUPREE, JR, MD and RAYMOND A. LEE, MD, FACOG

From the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Foundation at Rochester, Minnesota.

Histiocytosis X of the female genital tract is a rare occurrence. A typical case is described in which surgery was used to obtain a biopsy specimen for diagnostic purposes in order to distinguish the ulcerating lesions of histiocytosis X from a malignancy. Such differentiation cannot be done by gross inspection or physical examination alone. The treatment of choice is radiotherapy.
