From the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Surgery, Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va 23219

Abstract

Five pregnancies in 58 women of reproductive age who had received renal transplants are described. There was 1 spontaneous abortion, 1 premature delivery and 3 term deliveries. One of the term deliveries was associated with spontaneous uterine rupture. Prednisone (used as an immunosuppressive agent) may have contributed to uterine rupture in a 40-year-old grand multipara who had tumultous labor. The 4 infants weighed 2610, 1793, 2523 and 2640 g at birth and all were free from detectable anomalies.
