Abstract
Megestrol acetate is an orally active progestin of the 17a-aceloxyprogesterone type. In a series of 130 patients with recurrent or melastatic endometrial carcinoma, 81 were treated with megestrol acetate alone for at least 2 months. Of this number, 32 patients (39.5%) showed objective responses to therapy. A like number failed to respond to megestrol acetate, while 17 (21%) showed a partial response. Those patients with slow-growing, well-differentiated tumors generally responded best. Side effects were mild and infrequent.
