THE THIRD EAR

RAPHAEL S. GOOD, MD, FACOG

From the Departments of Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Miami School of Medicine and Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Fla.

Interview technics in obstetrics and gynecology are presented and discussed, especially as such technics are relevant to psychosomatic conditions. Specific examples are utilized to demonstrate the meaning of both verbal and nonverbal communications. Once such communications are recognized, technics for inducing patients to speak freely are outlined. It is concluded that these technics are essential for better understanding and, thus, optimal care for patients.
