Pseudotumor Cerebri and Pregnancy

JOHN L. POWELL, MD

From the Fitzsimons General Hospital, Denver, Col 80240.

Abstract

Pseudotumor cerebri is described in a pregnant patient, and the literature pertaining to signs, symptoms, pathophysiology and treatment is reviewed. The syndrome of benign intracranial hypertension in pregnancy is diagnosed by exclusion. The fact that it appears to be a self-limiting illness in which neurosurgical or medical therapy, including pregnancy termination, may not be warranted, unless vision is threatened, is stressed.
