Abstract
Erythrocytosis associated with uterine leiomyomas is rare, and is usually an incidental finding after initial laboratory examination. A patient with erythrocytosis and a large intraligamentous leiomyoma is presented. Erythrocytosis is probably the result of erythropoietin production by the myoma, and is reversible once the tumor is removed. Red cell volume should be reduced to normal levels several weeks before surgery to decrease the incidence of intra-operative bleeding and postoperative venous thrombosis.
