Patterns of Urethral Resistance In Deficient Urethral Sphincter Function

J. A. LOW, MD, FRCS(C) and MING-SHIAN KAO, MF, FRCS(C)

From the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Abstract

Patterns of urethral pressure in patients with demonstrable incontinence of increasing severity demonstrate that decreased urethral resistance may result from: a) loss of maximum resistance, changing the pattern of urethral resistance or b) the pattern of urethral resistance may be maintained but its closure reduced throughout the length of the urethra.
