A Mixed Germ Cell-Sex Cord Stroma Tumor of the Ovary in a Normal Female Infant

A. TALERMAN, MD

From the Department of Pathology, Institute of Radiotherapy, Rotterdam, Holland.

Abstract

An ovarian tumor composed of tubular structures without a lumen, lined by Sertoli-like cells and containing, in addition, varying numbers of germ cells is described. There was an admixture of both components throughout the tumor, and both components exhibited proliferative activity. The tumor occurred in a 4 1/2-month-old normal female infant with 46, XX karyotype. The child is well, free of recurrence and developing normally 4 1/2 years after the tumor was excised. The tumor shows a different histologic pattern from gonadoblastoma and is considered as a specific type of mixed germ cell-sex cord stroma neoplasm.
