Abstract

A postoperative death due to pulmonary embolism is reported. Autopsy findings revealed emboli in the systemic as well as the pulmonary circulation. Histologically, the emboli contained atypical transitional epithelium. A patent foramen ovale and a severe urethritis with ulceration are believed responsible for these phenomena.
