Unilateral Streaked Ovary Syndrome

EDWARD A. SLOTNICK, DO and ALVIN F. GOLDFARB, MD, FACOG

Division of Endocrinology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pa 19107.

Abstract

Five patients with the unilateral ovarian streak syndrome are presented. This new syndrome is defined as being characterized by oligomenorrhea progressing into secondary amenorrhea in a normal phenotypic female who has a streaked ovary in one adnexa and a hypoplastic ovary in the other. Their endocrine, cytogenetic and endoscopic data are reviewed. This entity should be considered when evaluating a patient for oligomenorrhea or secondary amenorrhea who presents with hypergonadotropic estrogen deficiency.
