Abstract

The case records of 169 consecutive patients with adenocarcinoma of the endometrium were reviewed. The patients had a mean age of 58 years and all but one had some form of abnormal uterine bleeding. The overall 5-year survival rate was 72%. Preoperative radiation improved survival in patients with uteri more than 8 weeks in size and reduced the incidence of vaginal recurrence. Survival rates for patients 70 years and older are comparable to all other age groups, indicating that these patients should be treated vigorously despite their advanced age.
