Abstract
Severe coital injuries of the vagina do occur. Unless the possibility of coital trauma is entertained in the differential diagnosis of vaginal bleeding in women of all ages, many of these injuries will be missed. A careful speculum examination with adequate visualization of the entire vaginal canal must be performed. Our experience with 37 patients, with coital injuries of the vagina, during an 8 1/2 year period, was reviewed. There were no significant complications or deaths. Except in trivial superficial lacerations with minimal bleeding, primary definitive surgical repair instead of vaginal packing afforded better healing and reduced morbidity.
