Abstract

The ability of appropriate doses of estradiol to arrest ovum passage through the rabbit oviduct has been well documented. The mechanism by which this "tube-locking" is effected has not been elucidated. This study was designed to examine possible interaction between estrogen and the intrinsic autonomic innervation of the oviductal isthmus. Blockade of the a adrenergic receptor with phenoxybenzamine significantly antagonized the arrest of ovum transport induced by estradiol
