Clostridial Organisms in Septic Abortions

Report of 7 Cases

ROBERT T. O'NEILL, MD and RICHARD H. SCHWARZ, MD, FACOG

From the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa.

Abstract

The culture of clostridial organisms from the cervix of a patient with septic abortion may not be of significance. This was true in the 7 patients reported, who were well recovered by the time the laboratory report of such a Clostridium-positive culture was known. The growth of clostridial organisms in the cervical culture of a woman with septic abortion is not of itself an indication for hysterectomy.
