Postobstructive Diuresis Complicating Relief of Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction by Uterine Leiomyomas

Abstract

A patient with lower urinary tract obstruction secondary to large uterine leiomyomas is presented. The dangers and physiologic mechanisms of postobstructive diuresis are stressed. Management entails awareness of the potential problem as well as careful fluid and electrolyte replacement.
