Perforation of the Uterus and Partial Extrusion of a Lippes Loop

Report of a Case

DONALD F. POST, MD

From the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.

Abstract

In a uterine perforation by a shell copolymer Lippes loop, the IUD was only partially extruded through the uterine wall and thus was undetected until the patient became pregnant. Severe metritis followed premature rupture of the membranes during the early portion of the third trimester. Cesarean section-hysterectomy led to a salutary outcome.
