Modified Sequential Oral Contraception Employing Mestranol with Chlormadinone

Abstract

Experience with a new sequential preparation involving 550 women who used mestranol 100 mg for 14 days followed by mestranol 100 mg plus chlormadinone 1.5 mg for 7 days has been analyzed. The percentages of the usual side effects reported being related to pills were all low.

The pregnancy rate of 0.14 is among the lowest reported for oral contraceptives. This new mestranol-chlormadinone sequential formulation represents a distinct advantage over the present one.
