Abstract
A comparison of past reproductive histories among multiparous indigent Negro women delivering term babies, prematures, and abortions was made. Each group had a typical past history and an increased proportion of past pregnancies similar to the outcome of the current or index pregnancy. A total of 15,162 indigent Negro reproductive records were studied to determine all possible combinations of full term, premature, and abortion deliveries in the past obstetric histories of gravidas 5 or less; 35 possible combinations were found. The frequency of each combination and the risk of prematurity in the next subsequent pregnancy for each combination were calculated, and the relationship prior to subsequently prematurity was found to be linear.
