PAUL D. ELLNER, PHD and AZRA SHAHIDI, PHD

From the Diagnostic Service, Department of Microbiology, Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, New York, N.Y.

Abstract

Two cases of postpartum bacteremia with Haemophilus influenzae are reported. Endometritis was suspected in one patient, while the other had purulent amnionitis and placentitis from which gonococci, Bacteroides, E. coli, Pseudomonas and enterococci were isolated. The source of the bacteremia was not apparent in either patient. Both patients were treated with ampicillin and kanamycin, and they recovered.
