Abstract

Disappearance of the nylon thread from the cervical os of 45 asymptomatic women, without spontaneous expulsion of a Lippes loop, impelled hysterographic study. Uterine perforation was demonstrated in 8 of the 45 patients, the IUD having passed into the peritoneal cavity in 4 patients and partially so in the 4 others. The latter were successfully treated by the use of an intrauterine hook passed vaginally in the removal of the IUD; 2 of 4 women with a wholly intraperitoneal device submitted to laparotomy for its retrieval.
