Water Intoxication Complicating Elective Induction of Labor at Term

Abstract

The course of a primigravida who recovered from severe water intoxication that followed the intravenous administration of 9 liters of electrolyte- free fluid and 430 units of oxytocin is delineated. The management and iatrogenic pathogenesis of this near-fatal disorder are outlined.
