Reflecting upon his experimental observations and the repcrts of others who have noted the effects of maternal medication upon the fetus among several species, the author suggests that similar studies be conducted in human beings. Such investigations should relate particularly to protection of the fetus from stress, perhaps through alleviation of fetal pain during childbirth by the administration of preanesthetic agents and various sedatives to the parturient.
