Serologic Specificity of the Positive Direct Antiglobulin Test in ABO Heterospecific PregnaNC.ies

Abstract

A heat elution method showed that 61% of infants from heterospecific pregnaNC.ies involving group O mothers had A, B, or A and B antibodies on their red cells. All umbilical cord cells giving a positive direct antiglobulin test were so coated, pointing to that test's reliable specificity. However, the reverse was not true— not all antibody-coated cells gave a positive direct antiglobulin test.
